Speaking

SO YOU WANT TO BE A NOVELIST?

AND YOU HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW FOR IT?

What you have to look forward to:

  1. Your book is ready for sale eighteen months to three years after you have signed a book contract with a major publisher. (Not to mention, you give up control of your book and your title)

  2. Publishers are good at finding books in the same genre that’s hot. They have a good banking arrangement, and their shipping is good.

  3. They’re bad at selling your book. Actually they don’t sell your book, but jobbers do. So it will be advantageous for the author to promote himself or herself.

  4. Today 13,000,000 books are seeking 6,000 shelf spaces.

The profession of book writing makes horse racing seem like a solid, stable business.

~ John Steinbeck

Guess what? It doesn’t matter who or how you publish your book, it still depends upon you to sell it.

Do you believe in your book? Have you exhausted countless manuscript submissions via a literary agent to mainstream publishers? (Have more than 50% of the publishers lost your manuscript, misplaced it or were too busy to send out a rejection slip?)

Maybe you have always wondered about self-publishing?

Perhaps you were put off by horror stories on the internet about free upfront publishing and uncontrollable back door charges.

My purpose is to discuss the joys of seeing your manuscript edited, bound and available on Amazon.com, as well as in brick and mortar bookstores.

My experience: I self published my book Rules of Engagement.

It was the most remarkable experience! I never expected to find such professional and attentive service (editing, design, layout, creative services for sales brochures, videos, marketing, etc!)

Happiness is: The author in control all the way!

By the way, Print-on-demand is here. Electronic books are here. And the publishing industry is reeling from these challenges.

Ideas are like rabbits. You get a couple and learn how to handle them, and pretty soon you have a dozen. ~ John Steinbeck

I do not represent a self-publishing company.

My purpose is to speak and discuss with you how self-publishing might be an alternative for you.

Oh, don’t forget, you will be selling, selling, selling. Your job will be to sell yourself and your book. Your hand will shake, you will have butterflies, and then you will pick up the phone and say you are the author of a book…

There’s an old adage: If you want something done correctly, you must do it yourself.

You also might make a lot of money if you promote your book via blog, website, social network, radio and newspaper interviews, etc.

Not surprisingly, the more you promote your book, the better you will become at doing it!

Build on your personality and strength. And take your dreams into your own hands.
